DL1
The DL1 was named after my best friend of all time, Dave (Geordie) Lisle.. The DL1 was originally made from AISI 52100 Bearing Steel by Brian Sorenson of Denmark. My original design concept was very much influenced by the traditional Woodlore type profile, but I wanted to go somewhat larger all round. I also wanted to get away from the ubiquitous 01 tool steel, hence choosing to use Bearing steel. Over the years I tweaked the DL1 a few times and it's now in its MK4 version and made from D2 steel.
THE DL1 - MK3 and MK4
Shown is the DL1 MK3 blade atop my own MK1 bladed knife.
The MK3 has a more substantial blade with a longer cutting edge that sweeps upwards towards the point.
The MK4 is not too dissimilar to the MK3, except that it has a deeper grind which is meant to make the knife more able to do all the Bush crafting chores as well as being competent in when it come to more delicate jobs such as food preparation, small game skinning etc.
The handle shape shown in the MK3 blades is the standard and is meant to fit someone with a large hand. Please note that as with all my knives, the handle profile may vary from knife to knife on account that I might have to reduce the size according to the end user's hand size and/or personal preferences.
The DL1 Mk4 dimensions are approximately as follows:
Overall length - 225mm
Blade length - 110mm
Handle length - 115mm
Blade thickness - 4.2mm
Widest part (at Ricasso) - 32mm
Widest part (at start of cutting edge) - 31mm
Widest part (at pommel end) - 33mm
Type of Grind -
Type of Grind: Flat Scandi grind to Zero degree or Slightly Hollow grind to Zero degree with or without a Secondary bevel.
Pin holes - 3 (Plain Brass pins or Mosaic pins) Brass Lanyard Hole - 1
Sheath configuration: Standard British type made from 3-4mm thick natural Veg tanned leather dyed to compliment the knife and/or according to personal preferences. A Firesteel loop may be added if preferred. An adjustable extension loop may also be added if required. This adjustable extension loop helps give more freedom of movement and make the knife more accessible when wearing long coats.
NB: ALL DIMENSIONS ARE APPROXIMATE AS NO TWO KNIVES ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AND PARTICULARLY SO IN THE HANDLE AREA. ALL OF MY KNIFE HANDLES ARE PROFILED ACCORDING TO THE END USERS STATED HAND SIZE; BE IT SMALL, MEDIUM OR LARGE.
Last of the MK3 Version which a good friend of mine now has. Sheath has the adjustable extension loop but no Firesteel loop.
